Hello everyone,
I am excited about what we will be learning in our class. I hope all your holidays very enjoyable as well as the time spent with family and friends. I am a married, christian mother of two adult sons, with four grandchildren which include a set of 7 yr old twins. I am very active in the church and enjoy horseback riding, bowling, traveling, GOOD food, spending time with family and friends. I am very adventurous and love a challenge.
I am from Chicago and moved to Michigan 3 yrs ago due to my husband taking a contract here as Director of security for charter schools. I had never taught before but always wanted to teach so the principal ask me would i teach a Plato class at a residential high school for girls . I fell in love with it however i never dreamed it was so much work for very little pay . Remember i had never been in the teaching environment before this and never knew it was so political. I had staff to sit in my class with the girls, along with camera’s and five different subject matters in one class.
I decided to return to school after many years and get my certification needed so that i could at least get paid for all these requirements. This was a difficult decision because i have over 25 yrs experience in healthcare and my income was almost 3 times what educators are making but i decided to spend my last few years working doing something i enjoy and that would make the world a better place so here i am. I am currently a employee of Dell and will continue there until i complete all my educational requirements.
I am enrolled in the Career and Technical Ed. Masters program which i intend to complete in the next five classes at which point i will continue to the Doctoral program. It is my desire to open a house for foster care girls who have no parents, have turned 18 and been discharged from their housing facility so they can have a safe place to live and continue college along with a full program to assist them in becoming successful, educated women.
Finally i look forward to interacting with each one of you and learning as much as i can.
Educationally Yours,
Andrea

ReplyDeleteHello Dr. Siko, Thanks for your help with getting this blog up, i am still now sure yet what i am doing but that is what learning is all about . Yes i have found what i enjoy and i am having fun along the way.
DeleteWelcome to the class! I think your desire to help others is amazing!
ReplyDeleteThanks and i look forward to communicating with you in the class.
DeleteHello Andrea, nice to me you. We are both going down the same path in CTE.
ReplyDeleteYes we are and i look forward to us both having great success !
DeleteHello Andrea. I think your idea for opening a housing facility for young girls is awesome! I also think it's awesome that you are going back to school to do what your heart desires. It's very nice to meet you!
ReplyDeleteHello Gwen, it is very nice to meet you as well and i look forward to hearing from you in the class. Thanks again !
DeleteHi Andrea, I am going to respond here because it seems , for me, easier to follow and respond on my own blog, then going back to all the comments I have left to check for responses. Hope that made sense. My blog is going great, so far, the kids have only used it two days but they seem eager to get on it and have read each others posts. so far I only have 8 students using it, starting slow to work out kinks. Next week I hope to have them respond to each other, I want to see them helping each other with the skills, perhaps that will work differently than when I tell them over and over again out to understand new vocab words or the main idea, etc.
ReplyDeleteActually looking forward to the speeches and this new way of doing them, again trial and error we will see what happens.
